Freedom of Expression Insights and Tidbits

Aloha Everyone, Thank you very much for your continued interest. I created Freedom of Expression Thru Doodle twenty six years ago as a business plan during my first two months of college and soon realized it to be my life mission. I presented the concept of utilizing the simple act of coloring as a tool to help people of all ages organize and balance their analytical and creative thought process. I believed then and now, everyone can benefit from developing both analytical and creative skills.

I have asked thousands of people: "What is your creative outlet?" (away from work and others) I will be honored to hear Your answer?

The answers I have received are as varied as you can imagine. Male Trends - In the early 80's when I first started asking "What's your creative outlet?", the trends for men were tinkering in the garage and woodwork. In the 90's, the common response from men was building things for the house; (interior design was a popular creative outlet for women during those years). About twelve years ago the trend changed again. Men have become increasingly interested in cooking and gardening. I remember when this current trend started because the men were very clear; "I cook!" "I garden!". A few even added "I'll still build stuff for the house but I take the time for me". From my experience: The Good News - Happy people have a creative outlet. - People with creative outlets develop patience, focus, confidence without arrogance or the constant need for validation, and they can bring these traits to all areas of their lives. - People who have developed a balance with their creative and analytical thinking ("Full Brainers") spend appropriate time with family, work, exercise, basic responsibilities AND fun creative outlets. - More adults are validating creative projects. -More adults are "taking time" with smart creative projects. - The "It's not personal, it's business" trend is changing. From my experience: The Bad News - Old trends are hard and slow to change. - The average adult still limits and labels themselves as either "analytical" OR "creative". - Children do not change the world. Adults change the systems. I will be adding more tid-bits as this web site progresses. Thank You very much for your continued interest in my concepts and products. Sending you warm alohas and much fun, Kim Peeples Owner/Creator Freedom of Expression Thru Doodle Doodle Bugs and Big Doods

Answer Why Tid-Bit: From my experience: - Now-a-days, most parents are letting their children "ask why" and they are giving them good answers instead of the old trend of simply replying "because I said so". This in turn is teaching our children deductive reasoning skills. -We have been teaching our children to think and understand. In return, they are comfortable making decisions. So when they ask "Why aren't you recycling Mom?" and "How do you do that Dad?"; these questions are not always easy to answer. Try Coloring! Coloring helps us slow down and organize our thoughts.

My Ideal Family Tid-Bit: I can usually tell a "Full Brainer" when they walk into my store. A couple of months ago, I had a full brain family walk in. I was thrilled and asked the dad "What's your creative outlet now-a-days?" He smiled non-chalantly and replied "I play piano pretty much every night". His oldest son, who looked about college age, chimed in with the synopsis of my research, "Yeah, and when he forgets, I say... hey Dad, will you play the piano before you ground me". That is what I think adults are learning through this process. We are learning how to slow down and make decisions calmly and with thought.
